Socialized Medicine???

i'm sorry if this sounds patronising but i'm going to do an idiots guide to the nhs ( national health service) no one here calls it socialised medicine. also i'm doing it in shorthand, i hate typing.!!!!!!!!!!

you or one of your family is ill.
first stop your gp. ( general practitioner) everyone has their own ( there maybe a few drs. in their practise) you will the same dr. all your life if they don't retire or if you don't move about to different parts of the country.

a gp can treat minor ailments ,even do small ops. remove warts cysts etc. and they diagnose serious illnesses.

if they diagnose a serious illness you will be sent to see a specialist who specialises in that particular disease.it is well known that you can be sent straight from your dr to the nearest hospital and operated on straight away if it's something serious. ( lump in your breast as an example) 2or 3 months to see a specialist sn't unusual if it is not life threatening.

a consultant is a doctor who has reached the pinnacle of his career, he has trained in his/her specialised choice in medicine. surgery, orthopedics, obgyn. etc.

the nhs is not perfect but i will continue to defend it because i am proud of the idea behind it . it has nothing to do with socialist governments.

the nhs was founded by a fellow welshman no less!!!!!

the nhs is funded by taxes. the cf teams are part funded by the cf trust.

if i haven't made myself clear i will be happy to answer ??????. to the other brits anything you can think of to add please do this is my longest post EVER . i want an award for services to the nhs.!!!!!
