Some vest questions!

My husband is going to be gettingh is first vest soon. We are getting it pre-owned from someone whom is willing to ship it to us. We are excited.

Anyway, are there any tips for cleaning and caring for it you can provide?
And where do you usually set up your machine?

Anything you can share about your vests would be nice to hear. Thanks.

We keep ours where it's used... in our case, the living room. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> Convenience/ease of access is a big factor when it comes to compliance- if it has to be hauled out and set up every time he wants to use it, odds are going to be lower that it will be used as often as it could be. At first it seemed so 'obvious' and out of place in the room... now we don't even 'see' it anymore. I'd put it somewhere unobtrusive but convenient, with a place to also set his nebs and with access to whatever else he likes to do during tx (computer, tv, comfortable chair, etc.)

As far as cleaning... we have a vest jacket that is washable if you take the inflatable part out. The Smartvest jacket is also washable, I believe... I have no idea about the inCourage. The older HillRom vest jackets can only be spot-cleaned. I'd recommend you wipe down the machine and hoses very thoroughly with sanitizing wipes and cleaning the jacket as well as you can, since someone else with CF has handled it quite extensively. It would be best if you did this, not your dh, due to that germ issue. I hope the person who is sending it to you has cleaned it as well.

I appreciate your tips and advice hmw. They are invaluable. Well hubby does his treatments on the bed so I guess we will just find room for it next to the bed. Like you said he would be more likely to be compliant with it if it is around an area he usually does his treatments at.

What wipes would you recommend we use for cleaning it? And yes the owner has already cleaned it well for us but we will clean it when we receive it as well.

By the way, would anyone know how much we should declare as the value of it for customs? We are having it shipped to Canada and we called Customs about it. They said we would be charged 13% tax of whatever we put the value as. He said though that since it is 9 years old that we may not be charged for it. However, I want to make sure we don't mess up anything.

So what would you all recommend the value being? And what company would you recommend using. We heard the UPS and FedEx charge hidden fees so we may just go with USPS.

You can purchase something like Control (a medical disinfecting solution) and wet paper towels in it to wipe down the unit, or soak paper towels in rubbing alcohol, or use conventional disinfecting wipes you can buy at the store. I'd probably be most comfortable using something medical grade.
