Maggie had ballet class today after nursery school. She wears a pink leotard and her belly is round and sticks out but maybe its more noticeable in the leotard. Anyway, Maggie got out of class and said "I have a big tummy" to me. She did not seem upset about it. She said someone asked me if I had something inside my tummy. I do not think anyone was teasing her or anything, they were just commenting on what they saw. The children are all around 3-5 years old so I was curious if anyone had any good comments for me to give Maggie that are appropriate for that age group? As she gets older I'm sure stuff will come up and Maggie has pretty good self esteem so she's handled comments about her enzymes, VEST, nebs from friends. Just not sure what to say about physical apperance stuff.

I know its difficult to hear things like that I would just tell her shes beautiful and not make a big deal about it.It sounds like she didnt pay much attention and you said she has good self esteem which is wonderful.I would think she wont think twice about it unless you go into it further.Let me tell you this Itook my kids to a picnic on sat. My 10 year old Dylan had his little girlfriend come and there were other kids there a little black girl asked my sons friend why she had so many freckles and she was like I dont know.I think children are naturally curious about things they dont know or a different.They dont know yet to be polite you know.Good luck and im sure mommies opnion means the most to her.

i don't know if this helps or not but joe used to have a distended tummy and could never keep his trousers up until he started to grow in height , that seemed to make his tummy stretch out and to stopped it protruding. he was never conscious of it though.<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
