Patrick, I used to go to Children's, from diagnosis up through age 22. I LOVED my doctor there (Frank Accurso) - he is one of the best pediatric CF docs in the country. I'm sorry to hear you're going through such a rough patch, and I hope your son doesn't end up having CF, but if he does have it you should know that you are in GREAT hands. All the doctors there are top notch and very proactive.

PM me if you have any questions!

You should have the results of the sweat test by the next morning. They actually know the results within a few hours, but by the time the lab calls the doctor and the doctor gets around to calling you it is usually the next day. There is a post in this section called IRT Levels that might interest you if that is what they tested for with the heal prick. My son was a lot older when he was diagnosed so I'm not real helpful with newborn screening, but I know that that father did a lot of research on it.

Hi. Sorry to hear about your son's probable diagnosis. Yes, Children's is an excellent hospital. We live in Houston and took our kid's to see Dr. Accurso last year for a second opinion. He is very good.
Sharon, mom of Sophia, 7 and Jack, 5 both with cf, Grant, 4 months no cf

Congrats on the new baby!!!! No matter CF or not, they are the best job that God will ever give us!!!!
I have one suggestion.....
If your little boy does have CF, he will most likely never be able to qualify for life insurance

With our youngest, we had a life insurance policy set up 2 days after he was born, knowing the likelihood of him having CF.

As long as your son is not diagnosed and looks healthy, he can qualify for a plan.

We bought a plan that will grow with him and he will never have to answer any questions about his health.

I know this is not something you want to think about right now, but it is something to consider. And if your son ends up being fine, which I pray is the case, you can cancel the policy at any time.

Please PM me if you have any questions.

blessings,
missa
