I am so envious! After seeing my SIL go through an induction, I am very nervous about being in labor at the hospital. Your birth story will be great I'm sure.

Did you take any birthing classes? Bradley birth suggests waiting until you are in serious labor before going to the hospital - as in, once you can no longer talk through your contractions, now it's time to go. It saves you endless hours and unneeded prodding at the hospital this way. My husband and I did this - well, maybe I waited too long (I really was trying for that unassisted birth!), because I had the baby 13 minutes after we got to the hospital! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> But, that covered everything on my birth plan: no IVs, no fetal monitoring, no internals, etc. It was in - push push push, hello baby! ( and even at that, I had a nurse tell me she needed to check me so I'd know when it was time to push - I remember growling at her mid contraction that there was no way I wouldn't know when it was time!)and it was perfect. the only thing that would have made it better would have been if I would have requested to leave early after the birth. I really hate hospitals and I truly am not a good patient.

I agree with wanderlost about waiting at home as long as possible. The standard "come to the hospital when your ctx are 5 min apart" really doesn't mean much. Wait until you really have to concentrate through them. If you show up in early labor you risk getting pitocin and the rest of the cascade of interventions that comes along with it. Do you have a birth plan? A doula? My doula was my lifesaver.
