Spreading the germs

I work in an office (in pretty close quarters) with about 10 other people. During the winter-spring months, there is a lot of viruses that float around and it seems that someone is sick at all times. I just keep a bottle of sanitizer at my desk and try to stay away from anyone who is sick (and not use their phones, keyboards, etc). It seems to work pretty well for me and I didn't get too many things this year. But one of my boys is in daycare too, so he brings home a lot of stuff as well. Sometimes it's not avoidable, but if it is, then definitely protect yourself. For this guy at your work, I think you need to have a one-on-one with him and explain the severity of your illness and that you just can't afford to be sick - and that you don't find his jokes amusing.

I think the recent H1N1 business has really heightened our awareness of the importance of avoiding cold and flu-causing viruses. I constantly wash my hands and use my hand sanitiser, though I'm sure I could up the usage!

If you feel you have been exposed to a potential threat you should do a nasal rinse with STERILE saline and then gargle some saline also. Also drink a very hot drink; this will help kill and wash away anything in your throat. If you're into alternative therapies then have some red chillis, orange, ginger and honey all boiled in water, strained and allowed to cool to until its just hot enough that it won't burn your mouth.

That guy is an a**hole by the way!
