Sputum culture results

I had a respiratory culture done few days ago.Can anyone tell me what is this and Should I go for antibiotic sensitivity test after this report?

Gram stain:

Pus cells:04/HPF
epithelial cell:06/HPF

gram positive cocci:Moderate
gram negative rods:few

Usually we get an initial report similar to yours, then a final report with abx sensitivities listed. IMO, you need to find out what the "bugs" are sensitive to, so they can treat it.

Yes, it's not complete. They sometimes call me with such a report because it does indicate there's bacteria, but they haven't identified them yet. For me, the gram positive ones are typically MRSA and the gram negative ones pseudomonas. If you know what bacteria you usually grow, you can probably take a pretty good guess at them unless it's something new. The lab should have completed results with the specific bacteria and antibiotic sensitivities in another day or two.

Thank you For your detailed reply Jana.I culture staph aureus.Now I am confused why they don't give me the complete report:/

Most likely because it's not done yet. You should eventually get it. It just means the lab hasn't figured out the exact bacteria yet. The gram-positive one is most likely the staph aureus you normally culture.
