SSDI Question

I had a question and maybe this has been discussed before but this is my first year on disability and I thought they told me initially that there is sometimes a cost of living increase every year.
For those of you that have been on SSDI for a few years, have you always received a cost of living increase?
I figure they will almost have to this year with the increase in fuel, etc.

Hello...I have been on SSDI for a few years now and yes, usually there is a cost of living increase every year. They usually send some notification prior to the new year telling just how much of an increase in percentage you will get and when it will be in effect. I hope I have helped...my issues now are with Medicare and its changes as of Jan 2006, still wading through all of the info and trying to make the right decisions regarding my prescriptions. Yes, there is a cost of living increase each year, but it is a small amount, only about $50/month increase from year to year. Not enough to pay for increased fuel costs and inflation!

Remember also that with the cost of living increase, there is usual an increase in the Medicare Part B premium and the inpatient &/or outpatient deductables. So when its all said and done there is really no extra money. Maybe break even!

OP here and I have another question since this is first year on SSDI.
Do they send out a year-end statement, like a 1099 or something? I assume so, but it doesn't hurt to ask.
Thanks in advance.

Yes & they usually send it out pretty quickly. We are able to file our taxes by the first week in February as a rule.

I got a statement that said there will be a cost of living increase and a rise in medicare premiums. My living increase is around $20, so don't count on it being much. In my experience, it has been between $10-$20 per year.
