Hello,
Every time my son is around certain family members he seems to culture Staph.
I sent out a nice e-mail about washing.
Not sure what the end result will be with the e-mails.
Really would like to hear some advice on what more I can do.

Thank you.

It probably has nothing to do with the family memebers. Staph is EVERYWHERE. And the chances are that your son has staph most of the time, and gets rid of it with antibiotics but it comes back.

My daughter is three and cultures staph practically every visit. She has since she was one year old. She cultures nothing else, but as I understand it, staph is extremely common for CFers.

Yes staph is everywhere.
In 15 years he just started culturing staph this past year.
Okay,
Maybe it's a coincidence.

Sorry had to edit.
The staph he usually has is skin staph and Pseudomonas.

Thank you for your quick response.

Does this family member have skin infections? I think most of the population harbors staff infection in their nasal cavity. Some people never know it. I work at a doctors office and if we see family members all come in for staph we prescribe bactroban nasal ointment for the patients to use in their nose. This seems to get rid of the staff and everyone stops passing this around.

Hand washing, I think is major with a CF kid. When Lexi was little I had a huge bottle of hand cleaner by the door and everyone that came in had to use it before entering our living room. Worked well to keep her well.
