Started PreSchool at the Elementary School Today

Today was my sons first day of preschool at the elementary school. We had started a preschool at a local church as a "warm up" this summer. But today we were in the big league!

Everything went very well, except the school nurse informed me that they had not yet received his medication release forms back from his CF docs. So, she explained that meant he would NOT be able to have snack today. I went into SUPER MOM mode and told her that was not acceptable. I then asked why this was not handled weeks ago. I had been a pest bugging the school all last week. They had assured me everything was fine. But, to find out on the first day of school that his Enzymes couldn't be given because someone dropped the ball. I was floored! I asked nicely for another set of papers. Jumped in my car and headed to the pediatricians office. Once I got there I asked the receptionist politely to please ask our Dr. for a signature. She snapped back our policy is we need 24hrs for school papers. I said in a loud voice "Today is my little boys first day of school..His class is having snack in one hour....He is not going to miss snack. I'm sorry I need that signature. .I will wait for you to ask his doctor". She tried telling me she would ask later and then fax it to the school. I said "No I will wait and drive it to the school myself". I won I got the "old bat" to get up and get a signature. Johnny had snack today, and they brought him his enzymes. Thanks for teaching me not to allow them to give them to him in the office/nurse office.

I think I made a good impression on the school nurse because after she had read the pamphlet on CF in the Classroom she asked if they could please put a letter out to his classmates. Saying something like "We have a special friend in our class that needs you to keep us home if we are sick, because our friend has a compromised immune system...Our teacher is going to be strictly enforcing our schools sick policy to protect all our friends." Ohh can I tell how impressed I was.Instantly all was forgiven! So happy to hear them taking these steps all on their own.

Ahhhhh......You sure toughen up being a CF Mom don't you!You learn to become very assertive! Thanks for all your help through the years.

Love,

Good for you! I know sometimes I feel like I'm being a real witch with a b and worry about offending someone, but these are our children!

That's great, Sarah! I hope I can be as strong as you when Maggie goes to school! I'm not assertive by nature but am slowly learning!
