Sure, the effects of steam are likely to help you feel clearer but is it possible to be at greater infection risk with all members of the public sweating and spreading their germs in there?

I agree there is a greater risk for infection in a steam room unless you have your own private one. Breeding ground for germs are warm and moist places that is why lungs are easily infected

Hi there. Once i asked a member of the staff in a swimming pool if, having cf, the steam room could jeopardize my health to which she responded (she knew about the disease) that it could be benefitial to use it for some time but maybe not for long periods. I've never felt any worse after using one, id feel better actually..

All I can picture is a bunch of old, bald, overweight men sitting around with towels that hardly fit around their waste. LOL>>>That thought alone will keep me away!

When I went in a steam room I couldn't breath. I'm never going in one ever again. I just kept coughing and coughing. Trying to breathg was hard.

Hi Guys, please excuse as I may sound a little ignorant (baby is 10mths with CF, so I'm still learning) but aren't you guys worried about the pseudomonas bug? Since this loves water, can you be sure that a steam room is throughly dried out every day. Isn't it quite risky for those with CF? Or would the heat kill the bug? As I said we are still learning, but I must admit my greatest fear at the mo is this bug!

I don't know if I'm an "odd one out", but places with steam (hot showers, steam rooms) really make it hard for me to breathe. I can't have really long, hot showers because I get so out of breath. I also don't need to sweat more than I already do, man, I'd have to take a few litres of water into a steam room with me and drink it otherwise I'd dehydrate in a few minutes

Donna, I had never thought about pseudomonas in steam rooms but I think many people view pseudo as inevitable when they get older. So many people with CF are colonised that you begin to worry a lot less. I did so many things when I was younger that probably put me at risk of catching something (public swimming pools, school change rooms - eurgh!) but it was a balance between having a "normal" childhood and being sheltered. Perhaps someone else has a better answer than me

Also to Donna - As well as replying I just have to say, I lived in Brisbane up until last year, woohoo, a local on the boards! How exciting
