Stem Cell Research

Hi,

Very interesting topic. I am very interested in stem cell research. I honestly believe without a question of a doubt that it is only a matter of time before stem cell therapy is going to be the cure for many diseases.

I first became interested in stem cells in nursing school, when I was taking a Microbiology class. I as a Christian do not believe that we should savea life by destroying another one ...

I do however fully support stem cell research in cord blood, as well as harvesting it from adult bones.. (stem cell.. which means an undifferentiated cell, meaning it doesn't have a purpose yet,) can be found in the long bones of adults as well.

Since I firmly believe that this is going to be the "wave of the future " In medicine.. and I believe it will be in my lifetime... I believe that we have to be very careful not to fall in to depravity(sp) and not allow science to take over humanitys sense of right or wrong...

We fell into trouble with cloning and the government had to step in.. I think it is going to be a rocky road of trial and error either way.. but I for one CAN NOT wait for real stem cell therapy to be available..

Thought I'd weigh in briefly by posting a link to one of my blogs which covers Stem Cell research and has a few of the forum members' responses.

The single most important concept for people to realize where stem cell is involved is that the stem cells scientists would use would be being destroyed anyway. They are the product of IVF therapies, and would literally be burned in a furnace...THESE CELLS ARE NOT THE RESULT OF ABORTIONS AND WE ARE NOT SAVING LIVES BY REFUSING TO USE THEM.
