Josh just cultured positive for Stenotrophomonas maltophilia. Has anyone ever heard of this or does anyone know anything about it. He is feeling very down because it has beennothing but bad new for the last 3 months. He's scared and wanted me to ask if anyone had any info at all on this...I did google it but that freaked himout more. Any help is appreciated

I was diagnosed with this my last sputum culture-it freaked me out when I first heard it. My CF clinic told me that I don't really need to stress about it....I plan to ask them more about it on my appt this Thursday.
They say it is showing up more and more....the nurse was saying something like maybe now the cultures are just catching it-and it has always existed? I guess it can be a little more stubborn to treat. I did some searches of the CF forums and you can find more information about it.
