Sterilizer

So I don't always sterilize my nebs...I know I am bad. I do it maybe once or twice a month, otherwise I rinse. I am trying to get better at keeping up with the sterilization so I took out my Nuk machine today (the one CF Services gave me when I first ordered Cayston). And I realized there is a small crack on part of it. It still works, but I dont know how well or how long it will last. Does anyone know if they will provide me a new one? Can I get my doctor to write a new script? The Nuk Sterilizer shows up on my prescription list on cf services pharmacy, but says there are no refills.

If I can't get a prescription, which sterilizer do you all use? The Nuk one at Target is $80!!!!!! I can't go out and buy that.

I use a microwave sterilizer. You can find them on Amazon under baby products. They cost about $20-$30.

I boil my nebs, then stick them in a ziplok baggie after they dry. I have enough that I can go several days without having to boil. My hoses I run a little vinegar through them and hang them outside on a sunny day. Germs don't like UV radiation.

Oh man so many allergans would get in/around the tube I would be wheezing for the next week.

Same reason I don't air dry my clothes outside.

I have 4 nebs per med, so i have 20 nebs sitting on my counter in separate containers (this is so I dont have to sterilize every day) I use one sterilized set per med per day.
You can ask at your center for extra nebs & also for extra tubing.
I first wash each set w/ warm soapy water, then boil in a pot for 10 minutes , I know this is the old fashioned way but old habits die hard lol

Thanks so much! I do agree that boiling is probably best, but to me its a lot of work, which is why I like the sterilizer. No clean up, you don't have to watch it or stand by/near it. I will try calling CF services first.

And JOni, thanks for the reminder, I need new neb cups as well!

I use the Advent baby bottle sterilizer too. I do not recommend the Tommy tippee. I think its also a good idea to purchase this at a Babys R Us as you can buy the buyer protection plan and have your sterilizer replaced for free if you start to have problems with it.
