Sterilizing Nebs

Hello,

I've read that many sterilize their nebs with Baby Bottle Sterilizers. Is it really efficient to kill germs? It seems really practical ! What are the best brands ?

Hello again Ray! I use a NUK baby bottle sterilizer. I'm not sure the exact model. It was sent to me for free with my first shipment of Cayston from CF Services Pharmacy. If I remember right from another thread, you may be starting Cayston soon, so perhaps this would be a great way for you to get a sterilizer?

I have heard not to use the microwaveable kind, but others on here do. I hate how centers seem to have different guidelines and advice as to how to sterilize properly. It's all so overwhelming and confusing! You also can't go wrong with good old fashioned boiling for 10 mins, but I know that can be tedious.

As to your last question, nope you don't need to worry about the blue plastic thingy! I run it through my sterilizer and still boil from time to time. They withstand the heat just fine!

Hope this helps at all!

Take care,

Autumn

Automn,

Thxs for the info ! You know what ? It seems I do tolerate TOBI after all :) Yes, I feel tightness (mostly when I wake up) and Ventolin helps a lot, but all in all my lungs are better and I breathe deeper. Less phlegm too. I'm sure my stats are better too. THANK GOD I tolerate it :) Well for now anyway ;-) I panicked last weekend (because of my bad experience with the Podhaler).

After boiling my daughters Nebs i dump them in a metal colander (strainer) then place the strainer into the empty pot that I boiled the nebs in. Air flows through the colander and dries the nebs. I keep them in the colander until ready to use. less handling.

The baby bottle sterilizer deformed some of my nebs... So I just put them in a bowl of water and pop them in the microwave - needs to be over 160 degrees to start killing stuff.
