steroid side effect or something else

Megan -- thanks for asking. No, we just gave her the third dose of 5 on the steroids and she still has a minor little cough. I'm beginning to wonder if her baseline has just changed. Though her PFTs are very good, I just don't like the thought of her only getting worse from here.

Emily's baseline has changed over the last few years, and each minor change has occurred around the time of big exacerbations. So that may be what has happened here. Her fev1 is very very good too (well over 100%), although her small airways show signs of inflammation. That being said, 5 doses of Prednisone has never been anywhere close to enough for her. She usually needs at least a week of twice a day dosing, often much longer (but we know that inflammation is a big issue for her.)

Last year ds was on high dose pred for severe throat swelling caused by mono and his face was red and flushed looking after a couple of days. When he went back for his follow up the doctor said it was high blood pressure caused from the steroids but that since he was young with no heart problems and it was short term use, it wasn't anything to be concerned about. Don't know if this could be the cause for your daughter but could you maybe check her blood pressure?
