Steroid Use

Hello, all. Question; does anyone who has NOT had a tx use steroids on a daily basis? After I got ill, I was having a terrible time breathing so my doc put me on Prednisone for five days. I feel a lot better, of course, better than before I got ill. I was wondering if anyone is using a low-dose steroid daily to keep the inflamation in the lungs down in order to breathe easier. If so, I may ask my doc about staying on them for a little while. I realize all steroids have side effects, but I doubt being on a low dose simply for maintainence would be too harmful.

Thoughts?

My daughter doesnt use them on a daily basis, per se. She is sick most of the time so she is on them for 15 to 20 days each month.

I have only used steroids a total of 3 times in my entire life (I'm 28) and even then it was an extremely low dose. My doctor for some reason does everything possible to avoid using them on me.

I am on prednisone every other day. Have been my whole life. I am on 10mg. Personally I haven't had much issue with side effects although I might have diabetes now (waiting on testing). If I don't take them I can feel it right away and my IgE levels go up immediately

I was on it for quite a few months back in 2005 during a real bad exacerbation. Dont take them as a "maintenance" drug. My sugars go too crazy. I dont know if I could even have a low dose with out the sugar problem. Jennifer a/k/a JennifersHope uses steroids. She use to be on very high doses & it has been reduced. This is more for her Addisons Disease tho her lungs benefit also. Maybe she will see this and respond since I dont know what doses she is on now.

Hi Lisa, i have been on steroids daily for about a year and a half now. its only a small dose, 10mg. I think it really helps, but i think it was one of the reasons im now diabetic!<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0">. I was on a very high dose of steroid, which did not help. its gradually been decreased over the past year.

Thanks, guys, for posting your experiences. I certainly don't need CFRD if I can avoid it, so maybe I'll hold off on the steroid idea...
