Stomach Bug

<br>Last weekend we thought DS had finally turned the corner and was eating so well.  He asked DH' cousin for a turkey sandwich for a snack and at the whole thing.  Then a couple hours later had supper, another huge snack. Then middle of the week I noticed he was getting a bit of a head cold -- really stuffy nose and middle of the night he had a fever of about 100.  Gave him Ibuprophen, the fever broke, stuffy nose went away.  He also had very loose stools.  But I figured with the fever, it caused the loose stools.  Then a couple nights later he said he had to go to the bathroom and threw up.  So fine, figured he had a stomach bug.   I did ask him if it was like before his obstruction -- if he felt pain.  No he said he just felt "funny".  Dizzy (nausea)? Yes. So he hasn't been eating as well.  His tummy is soft, not distended, but he just isn't interested in eating.   His stools are non-formed and kinda greasy. I've never really dealt with DS being ill.  He had ear infections, colds and a rare stomach bug as a toddler, but this is starting to worry me.  The what-ifs are creeping in.  This is so unlike the years prior to his last obstruction caused by adhesions.  And really, even when his enzymes weren't making it thru due to said obstruction, he never had the liquid stools. Just venting.  He says he feels fine.  No fever.  In fact he showed me a tooth that was coming in and said maybe he was teething.  Kinda weird, but he did have similar symptoms as a baby...  Le sigh!

So sorry you are dealing with this on top of everything else. A few months ago, my daughter had a stomach issue. Severe pain, threw up a few times. Any food would make her stomach hurt violently. We had xrays, stool samples, urine samples, blood tests. It lasted 14 straight days! Then it just went away. She had just come off 21 days of antibiotics and I failed to give her enough probiotics during that time, so I think she caught a stomach bug that probably wouldn't have lasts that long if I had kept her digestive tract in chEck during the antibiotics. Anyway, all the tests came up normal for us, but if you are really worriEd, you could have labs done for parasites, etc. Also, blood tests can give an idea of whether it is bacteria or virus (depending on white blood cell and neutrophil levels, or something like that...sorry, it has been awhile so I can't remember exactly what the test is).

Hope this helps??

Also, if you do have labs, make sure they run all tests right off the bat. We had to go back a couPle times...all parasites, cDiff, etc. Also, milk/dairy is hard on the stomach during stomach bugs.Good luck.

ugh -- I really hope this is just a stomach bug. Keep him hydrated and hopefully hell pick back up any weight loss as soon as he's got an appetite again.

If you're really worried you can take him in and get an x-ray that should show if he is backed up with stool.

I'm thinking it's a tummy bug as he's not in pain, stomach is soft and not distended. He did eat some yogurt this morning and a couple hours ago had a snack of bread, peanuts -- I know not ideal, but it's what he requested -- and then another piece of bread with peanut butter on it.
