Stomach Bug

He went back and forth with low grade temp and normal. Decreased appetite, but then would eat well and kept food down. Sent him off to school Monday morning and he threw up outside his class room. Finally had normal stools and no fever. Stayed home with grandma and proceeded to eat popcorn, crackers, peanut butter and drink soda. She later fixed him a cheese sandwich. And later that night he had a low grade (99) fever again.

He was bouncing off the walls, happy, no stomach pain. Tummy was soft.

I wondered if maybe his carnation instant breakfast was too rich for him due to his stomach bug, so gave him regular milk with Tuesday morning's breakfast and he threw up again. Told his dad his stomach was bubbly. So he stayed home yesterday. Requested Dill pickles and popcorn for lunch. Bleah!

So today he went back to school and I jump every time the phone rings wondering if the schools going to call. I didn't give him any milk with breakfast this morning, thinking his tummy might not quite be ready. When I spoke with his daycare director, he said "Oh, he must be the first one to get it this year".

So based on symptoms, he and I think that he's got a touch of rotatvirus or whatever stomach bugs tends to go around each fall. We've been fortunate in that DS only got the "stomach flu" once, when he was a toddler. So we're sorta grasping at straws here as we're not used to him getting sick!

My kids are not the ones with CF but when my daughter was 2 she threw up on and off for 2 weeks. She also had what I believe was bronchitis during that time but they were 2 separate illnesses. She lost some weight (she doesn't have any to give - she's tiny at just 26 lbs!) and was weak for most of it but eventually it just stopped. And her nausea was quite random and sometimes just once a day - or she would skip a day and then throw up the next day, feeling happy between. Occasional low grade fevers too. Just give it more time <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

My daughter with CF has had a couple stomach bugs; the last one she had was very obvious because the whole family got it; we were miserable. However, before I knew it was a stomach bug I was beside myself. I have a few friends who are teachers at my kids school so I usually give them a call to check and see what kids are out sick with. I also will give the school nurse a call to find out what's going around. My friends find it funny in a weird way that I sigh relief when I find out yes there is a stomach bug going around. Maggie's had 2 bowel obstructions so stomach bugs are a relief.

Exactly! Two years ago DS' bowel obstruction started with vomiting over night, was still stooling then next day. He asked for food, was eating okay, drinking okay, but kept vomiting off and on through out the day, had a low grade fever. We figured it was the stomach "flu". Then I realized he hadn't stooled since morning. We took him to the ER the next day when he complained of pain.
