Stomache ache

So Maggie got sent to the nurse yesterday and today for belly aches..I think she is constipated not sick...Gave her prune juice yesterday and Miralax this am...She got sent to the nurse today(she pooped a little before school and moderate at school) Maggie was acting like she wanted to come home but I encouraged her to stay at school....Would you have taken your child home? Why or why not? Jsut wondering if I am being too tough on Maggie.

Any fever or other signs of illness? (From what you say it sounds like no.) Did she get some relief from symptoms by pooping? How was she when she got home from school- did she continue to act unwell or was she up and acting relatively normal?

I'd be inclined to have her stay at school if possible. Emily often has a stomachache and will be allowed a short rest and then is able to go back to class. I don't doubt the validity of the stomachache, but it's not usually severe enough to require her to come home. The nurse knows to ask her to try and go to the bathroom (there's a small private bathroom right in the nurse's office and Emily is sometimes more inclined to take her time in there vs. the more crowded bathroom in the hall with several stalls) and if that doesn't help to offer her a small snack to see if that helps.

The nurse can usually tell the difference when it's a more urgent 'sick' stomachache and if she's been having diarrhea, has even a low temp combined with stomachache, or has the 'look' (which the nurse has seen hundreds of times, lol) that comes with impending vomiting... I get the call and we decide what to do.

She had no fever...I stayed at recess, she was able to swing on the swingset..I sat at lunch with her and she had pasta, grapes, pretzels..Her stomache felt soft..I am sure she has more poop to go; but it was almost like the teachers expected me to take her home...I am inclined to see of Maggie can "tough" it out and try to stay...This is a chronic issue..so I don't always want to have her come home....Course she may need to stay home tomorrow if this continues or do a half day, That's my thought on the issue...

Sounds like this isn't a common occurence, so I'd be apt to keep her home --- if she's complaining of discomfort and wants to be home. If you think it's constipation then you can try to get her cleaned out and monitor her stools at home.

The school also called me today that DD had a tummy ache, a low-grade fever, and that a stomach bug was going around. So here we sit at home. She is fine. I think their thermometer is broken!

But since they had also called me yesterday (she stuck that one out), I decided to go ahead and get her today. She and I have agreed that if she goes to the nurse for it, the tummy ache is usually bad enough that she needs me. Sometimes we just talk over the phone and she says she will stick it out. Other times, I go get her and feed her, she has a good long bathroom trip, and then she wants to go back to school.

Maggie's stomach aches do seem to happen around the same time of day,too. Usually around 11am.. Maggie seemed ok after school. She has pooped 2 more times today..She's outside playing, she may need some more Miralax; I just hate giving it to her on school days..

I'm glad I went to the school to check out the situation; now I know there is no hand washing going on..Yikes! Last year they would go for lunch first then recess. The teacher would have them wash hands before they went to lunch.. I will give the teacher a call tomorrow about it; figure that's better than e-mail.
