Stuck in a meal/calorie rut

I'm always looking for healthy high cal/balanced meals being a Cfer, but being in my 2nd trimester of pregnancy my calorie needs are really upped right now, but the problem is the 'morning' sickness...Well it hasn't really been 'morning' its been all day, and its sticking around the entire pregnancy. Yea! ugh.

I'm not throwing up anymore, I'm just nauseous. I have bouts of it that come and go, and about 3-4 days out of the week eating is pretty hard.

I'm in the biggest cooking rut too. Running out of new ideas, and things to spark an appetite.
HELP!

Anything too cheesy or too greasy just can not work right now. First off I'm too turned off by it, but digestion is much slower now and I just can't digest that food well now.

Regardless of high cal, just being a mom...come on, cooking can get soooo boring and tedious! How do you get out of the ruts? I can't be the only one.

I agree with you about cooking. While I love to eat, I am no artist in the kitchen. But as a mom, I cook constantly.

My biggest secret/crutch is:

1) Foreign spicy sauces to put on plain rice, cheap cuts of meat and beans.
Mango Pickle-Indian
Chili sauce-Thai
Cholula's hot sauce-Mexican
Sriracha hot sauce-Vietnamese, I think. I mix it with Ketchup to take it down a notch.
Teriyaki sauce-Japanese

In sandwiches, I add horseradish and interesting jams and jellies (fig, hot pepper, mint, ginger).

2) I know you said cheese is hard for you to digest these days but... Cheese on French bread, butter the bread first, is soooooooo yummy and high calorie.

3) Avocado: cut it in half, pour balsamic vinegar in the crater, salt and scoop it into your mouth with a spoon.

4) Granola cereal and full fat Greek yogurt.

5) Peanut butter and apples, celery (not if you have family history of nut allergies, I guess is the protocol for pregnant women these days).

6) Pot roast with a decent amount of salt and fresh herbs. My husband made this yesterday and then embarrassed me by taking a picture of me eating the leftovers of my kids...basically me at the end of the dining room table with four plates in front of me.

7) Hard-boiled egg mashed with sardines and mayo on toast. (From this one you can tell my mom isn't American ;-)

Tacos!!!!

Put a Pork tenderloin in a crock pot with good fresh green salsa (about 16oz) 1-2 TBL spoons of Cumin, and something hot if You like it that way. Put on high for 7-8 hours(on the high/low crock pot). Your house will fill with the smell of goodness that is pork taco meat. Very tasty and You can put the leftovers in eggs in the AM or tacos for a week.

Colin,
That sounds yummy. Do you do anything to the meat, like cut it? Or do you throw the tube of tenderloin in as is?
Thanks :)

As is. It is very easy, the pork should be covered with the salsa. If You start it when You go to bed You will dream of tacos because of the tasty smell. When it is done cooking it will pull apart with a fork.

Yum, i cannot wait to buy a tenderloin and try this. My chicken in the slow cooker has always been mediocre, and after I melted the handle off the slowcooker lid, reheating something in the over, I put the contraption in the basement. But I am gonna fetch it this morning :)
