Stupid cigarettes

So, some lovely middle aged man decided the best place for him to smoke his death stick was right in front of the door to one of M's doctor's offices. And, M had the pleasure of walking right through the cloud of smoke Monday mid-morning.

He's been coughing and hacking ever since. And, its getting WORSE. Yesterday, he started rattling and today he's using accessory muscles. I'm calling his doctors in the am since diligent treatments hasn't gotten it back under control.

UGH! I just get so tired of trying to keep him away from cigarettes only to have it show up at the least expected place and unavoidable. WHO smokes at the door to a doctor's office? Someone could be needing to walk through that door on oxygen or something!

When DS was a baby, I'd dread the monthly visits to the main clinic for his synagis shots because I'd have to run him and his baby carrier past the smokers at the front door of the clinic. I'd throw a blanket over his face, run and hold MY breath (as if that would help).

Eventually the clinic banned smoking on their property and also have a policy regarding their employees, who cannot SMELL of stale smoke while working. Used to gag every time I got a certain nurse at our neighborhood clinic -- stale smoke and LOTS of stinky perfume to try to cover up the odor.

I'd call up the clinic and complain. I did at Walmart and they moved the employee smoking area off to the side instead of the entrance doors.

I completely know what you mean and I'm am so sorry to hear that the effect of the smoke continues.

We had a similar situation at home - no smoking allowed on the grounds of our development, yet some J.O. was smoking away and the smoke drifted into our car as we're getting ready to leave. Coughing fit ensued.

I would absolutely complain to the clinician - they likely already have a policy about smoking a certain distance from doorways and simply need to enforce it better. Better yet would be no smoking on the premises.

Best of luck and I hope the coughing clears soon.
