Stupid People!

hey everyone,
I haven't posted in awhile but anyways this weekend the weirdest, rudest thing happened. I called a taxi to take me to the hospital on friday so I could get my port hepranized. I do have a very bad cough so and I was in the cab for about 10minutes so I coughed quite a bit. My driver made a few comments and I just smiled politely and didn't see the need to explain exactly WHY i coughed the way I did. Anyways everytime I coughed he went on and on. When we arrived at the hospital I asked how much money I owed him, he turned around and said " That sounds contagious sweetie, I don't want your money" I was FURIOUS!!! I mean hey awesome I saved like 10 bucks on the cab ride but still....I was fuming because that was rude, I wanted to tell him why I was coughing just because he was being so IGNORANT! Anyways I remember there was a post similar to this before ( about people and their ignorance kinda) Just wanted to vent though!

That's cool, CF saved u $10. But I don't think he was being ignorant. The problem w/ CF, is that everyone does not know what it exactly is and if they do there is really no way people can tell u have it unless u tell them. I don't have CF, but I don't want to be around someone having a hacking episode. I think it's human nature to be alarmed at people.

I agree with Lori - I would have responded the same as the cab driver. How was the guy supposed to know?

I think we with CF can live in such a CF focused world that we often don't remember that the majority of the world doesn't know what it is.

If you're going to get upset about his ignorance, help him out with it. Educate him. Otherwise, get over it.

I think we with CF can live in such a CF focused world that we often don't remember that the majority of the world doesn't know what it is.

Nope, you don't at all.

And I agree - it sucks having CF. Especially when you're sick and you're just trying to take care of yourself by going to the hospital.

Hope all went well at the hospital.

It does suck and no you don't sound like a biotch at all.

But I'd be a total hypocrite to call him a jerk, b/c I'd probably think the same exact thing if I were him! I mean, I get totally annoyed at people for going out in public sick. B/c I don't want to catch what they have and wind up on ivs!

I usually just smile and say-sorry, its just bad asthma, or bad allergies. Thats enough to shut them up.

Of course he could have pretended to have his hands full and just have you lay the money down on the seat next to him! But do people really have manners?

I don't think that you should have to explain to ppl about your cough, as the amount of time a cfer coughs you would be explaining all of the time. I can understand how you wouldn't want to go into full details each and everytime you cough.

Maybe make business cards that state your not contagious and please donate money or become a donor <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

He was ignorant, but that part was because he didn't understand. That part may be forgivable.


BUT the RUDENESS is his fault and is not forgivable.

I'm sure I will have heapz who disagree with me, but it is my opinion and that isn't going to change.
