Sugar Influences

I don't know about my period affecting my sugars yet, but I am suspicious- I was just thinking about this this morning- funny you should bring it up!

I am monitoring my sugars in anticipation of my OGTT. They go up and down. I have had days when I have skipped lunch (not in the last couple of years, though) and no problems- I've had days when I've eaten a decent lunch, and had my blood sugar crash (about 1 or 2 times a year for many years).

For example, after dinner on Friday- 170. Saturday morning-102. 6pm on Sat. (2 hrs after watermelon)-105. After dinner, 186. This morning, 136 (and had the same before bed snack both Fri. and Sat. nights). 3 1/2 hrs later, 97.

And yes, it really doesn't seem to depend on what I eat sometimes...but I am just starting to chart my blood sugars, so I will have to see...

Mel-my sugars are more related to what I eat than a time period and I dont have problems with it beign worse when I am sick that I have noticed though I know that is the norm. I have been 'trending' closer to diabetes since 14 yo and both my sisters are type 1 since 8yo.

If I eat just sugar carby foods I have trouble, if I balance with protein and fat I am fine. This is just me but I tend to go just a bit high as my body does adelayed reaction then it realizes it is too high and slams out way too mcuh insulin and 'overreacts' which then plummets me down way too low. My last # on a 3 hour OGTT was 45, the # before that was around 180 so that flux was just in one hour. Now if I were to eat that much sugar on an empty belly with protein and fat I woudl be ok.

Ok that is my ramble but if I didnt answer your ? let m eknow!

Yes, "that time of the month" affects my blood sugars. I have watch what I eat more carefully.

I am unable to skip any meal (even my snacks sometimes). I carry snacks with me especially when my meal might get delayed. I also find if I eat the right balance of protein to carbs things stay pretty even.

Once in a while I get a high or a low that catches me off guard. I do what I can to even things out and just watch things better for the next few days.

I don't dare skip a meal... my sugars get super wacked out and I feel miserable for a long time.

I haven't really noticed that my blood sugars are effected by "that time of the month". I have been keeping track the last couple of days, and it just happens to be that time of the month. I don't think they look any different than any of the other times I have taken them.

Sometimes, if I eat something sugary, they tend to be a little bit higher than usual, but not anything major. I am a big candy/sweet eater, so I am usually having something sweet during the day. Although my dr. seems to think I am diabetic, my blood sugars (in my opinion) do not indicate that. I pretty much eat whatever I want, whenever I want, and my sugar levels here at home have never gone over 200 (except one time in the past 3 years).

Good luck to you!
