summer

We had no problem with the lakes in PA. or Ohio when we lived there. It was when we moved to Oklahoma and spent time in the lakes here and in Texas. We get 100+ days on end in the summertime. Also doesn't help when you have a child who used to suck his thumb all the time.

I do remember the Lake Texoma lake having a big problem with bacteria that year my son got sick (we didn't know beforehand). Our doc back in Oklahoma even showed us the articles warning of lake swimming.

We just spoke to our pulmonologist about being "overprotective" of our 1 1/2 y.o. w/CF. I quit my job to keep him out of day care and we don't have him around sick kids. He does go everywhere with me--ride in the cart at the store, play at the playground, etc. We just use antibac gel every time we get back in the car. He has not even had a cold in a year (although + for psuedomonas for most of the year). The doc said that we did not need to worry about exposing him to stuff while his lungs were still developing. Obviously when he goes to school we will deal with more stuff. When he's older at least he can blow his own nose and wash his own hands... the overprotective instinct has decreased over the past year since his diagnosis. (slightly... <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> ) Anyways, we also are campers. We adjusted from backcountry camping to truck camping so that we can plug his nebulizer in to the cig lighter. We took a vacation when he was 15 months old for 10 days and left him with his grandparents and that was a lovely time for all of us. It is very important to us that he gets his therapy every day so that is a big factor in when/where/how long we take trips.

Good luck!
