I dont' take anything. Should I be? Where do you get supplements and how much do they usually cost? For example, scandi-shakes, etc... I've tried them before, but couldn't stand the taste.... Maybe now that I'm older (and wiser, I like to think) I'd be able to guzzle them down once and awhile.

I do scandishakes...if you have ultrase enzymes you can get scandishakes and ADEKs free of charge. I have also taken ensure plus, but it gets pricey.

Hmmm.... I just take Pancrease, and there isn't a special like that with that company. I'll check into getting them from CF Services. Dave, good for you! You take alot of supplements! I know I should, I just cringe at the thought of the taste, and the recipes they give for making them yummy are too hard and I'm lazy. ha ha!

<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0"> Hi, I tend to take up tp 3 scandishakes a day. I know they are not that tasty but they do work if you take enough of them. Also just try to drink lots of full fat milk instaed of soft drinks i.e. coke etc and try putting cheese on alot fo your food if possible. I also recently started taking a protein shake as well which i had to buy from the shop but it works. Basically i worked out that if i go to the gym 3 times a week i need to have nearly 4000 calories a day, i know that sounds alot but it is possible to do.

If you are medicaid elgible, they cover ensure/boost. My husband use to get 150-200 shakes a month, medicaid in WA paid for it and we paid NOTHING!

One of the supplements I take is SERIOUS MASS by a company called Optimum Nutrition. You can get this at any health food store in your area. Because of this I have been able to maintain and actually increase my weight. When I first started taking it I was 6ft, 160lbs and now I weigh 183lbs. I have been able to maintain this weight for the last few years because of this shake. I have tried the scandi shake, ensure... but I find this to be the MOST beneficial. The only downside is its not covered by insurance and my doctors have told me that I shoudn't use it because it isn't FDA approved- but hey, neither are the enzymes we are all taking. (visit www.cff.org for more info on that one). During the times that I ran out and wasn't taking it, I acutally LOST weight, so I really don't listen to my doctors on this one.

Hi, I am a nanny that takes care of a 5 year old boy with CF and diabetes. We would like to donate our Scandi Shake to anyone that would like to try it or has to buy it for the $8-12 (4- 3oz. packages) that it costs. I don't know if this stuff expires but we have had it for atleast a year. We have 65 vanilla packets and 22 chocolate. Please put in your request by June 2nd, 2005 noon pacific time to slotwinc@yahoo.com. We will put all names in a hat and do a drawing. The number of requests will determine how we will divide them. Thanks.

For the Serious Mass poster. Don't forget to mention there are 291 grams of CARBS in a single serving and that there is a WARNING LABEL on the side of the package for diabetics and hypoglycemics.

I'd stick with Scandi's and Boost.

The Serious Mass post was back in october and there was clairification back then about the diabetic warning. NOT all CFers are diabetic and it would be very very beneficial to someone who does not have diabetes. And a good portion of those carbs are complex carbs-they are not all sugars. The diabetic label is also there and can be viewed online before purchase. If you don't have sugar problems it is a very ideal supplement to use. My husband is 6 foot 195 lbs, 10% body fat (and believe me he hasn't always been that way, he was 6 ft and 132 lbs in his SR year).

My son has 4 scadi shakes a day! 2 at school and 2 at home. If you want to make banana scandi shake, in a blender add a vanilla packet, milk(I use a little extra) 1 banana, 1 cup of vanilla icecream. I make these with my son, he gobbles it up, and has 385 more calories than just a regular scandi shake. You can add more banana if it's not enough banana taste for you.

1st put the banana and milk into the blender first so it's not so lumpy, then add the icecream, and then the scandi shake, once in a while I'll add a raw egg(when he's not looking adds 75 more calories) and he doesnt notice it at all. This turns a regular 600 cal scandi shake into a 1060 cal yummy gobble it up treat!
