survey of regional climates - effects on sinus & lungs

i was just wondering how other CFers in different areas of the country (or other countries) fare during different parts of year ?

i have been having worse sinus and lung problems in last few years.. and many of my sinus problems seem to be from sinus allergies to molds/fungus, which then cause polyps, infections and CF's thick mucus cause the bacteria to thrive and cause infections to spread... down to the lungs.

Here in SouthEast/GA:
Spring - mild wet/humid and lots of pollens and molds
Summer - humid and hot, less pollen but still lots of molds
Fall - cool wet/humid and lots of molds.
Winter - cooler/cold and humid.. but molds don't grow as well in the cold climate.... so not as bad.
i can see the molds growing on the siding and on almost every surface outside.

i am primarily wondering about warm months when most of us with lung & sinus infections have more problems. Any CFer who travels around the country would be able to relate the differences.

One theory i have is i would do better out west/Rockies in dry climate (but high altitude may be factor, as well as too dry).
Another theory i have is i would do better in northeast in cooler and only mild humid climate.

i hate to admit it/think about it.. but the best climate would seem to be in Calif.. away from the smog though.

I am from southern Ontario and it does get hot and humid in the summer which does make it harder to breathe. It is also tough in the winter time when it is very cold and the wind is blowing in your face.

Hi Ted,

Your right about the climate here in California. It's pretty nice, but we do have SMOG problems. We've even talked about moving. The only thing is where. There's going to be problems anywhere you go I'm sure. I think the best place would be close to the ocean, but that's very expensive!

>> Hey, whats wrong with California?

smog and too many people... each sitting in there own car on the freeway...adding more smog. its nice when you get away from the cities.. i really liked the San Franando Valley, and up by Lake Tahoe.

yea, and we are each diff.. so some things in an area may affect you more than me, etc.
Seems like most of us (and healthy folks too) find it harder to breath in the hot/humid air, and the bitter cold of winter.

yea, i've been to Bay area a few times, over to Tahoe and Reno, and S Cal, Irvine, etc. a few times.. and its been nice.. just expensive (because everyone else wants to live there too).

i need a Calif without the people, smog, and expense...
i went on some vacations (before having serious sinus/lung problems): to Hawaii, and the humidty was terrible (tropical)...Puerto Rico.. kinda same as Hawaii (humid/tropical). i went to southern Yucatan penn in Mex a few times... nice beaches and fair weather, but then you are away from US healthcare (good or bad as it is)... which is scarey for CF patients to be away from Drs.

its hard to find the perfect climate for CF... and diff seasons it may be in diff places (north in summer, south in winter).

Try living in England, horrible damp grotty weather all year round at least u get some sun! Funnily enough i find i am much much healthier in the summer months even when i go abroad i seem to feel generally good inside too. I think the sun does me good and would love to live somewhere a bit hotter. Compared to the horrible seasons we get in England.
