Yeah Nicole, I understand the needle companies recommend changing every week as well, but I wonder if they aren't just trying to sell more needles. Just the cynic in me I suppose. Honestly, I trust my doc more than just about anyone, especially when it comes to CF.

I'm really interested in Nicole's post about how she had to really force the issue to get her port. I had the complete opposite experience - I REALLY didn't want one and my entire CF team (docs, nurses, etc.) just hounded me every time I saw them about how much easier my life would be if I would just get the port. I was never told, and actually had no idea until reading Nicole's post, that there were only so many sites that could be used. I was also never told that the stupid thing would have to be flushed every month when it wasn't being used. Needless to say, I got the port and ultimately it was the right decision for me. It's been in place for almost 7 years now, it's a double lumen (meaning I get stuck with TWO needles every month) and both are still working perfectly. About dressing/needle changes: I've heard so many different "protocols" I really have no idea what's best. I change the needle and the dressing weekly and that seems to have worked for me, sweat build-up and itchiness and all.

don't trust my word on how many sites there are to 'use' I was told that when they were trying to convince me NOT to get it so it might have been an exageration or a fib <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0">.

I am using the cotton slip around the port and the gauze and it is working well to help with the sweat.

Thanks!

Hi Nic,

I haven't been active on the web site for some time. You know me I go through good and bad days of wanting to get away from the CF . I guess that it is down to my late dx's and acceptance. ANyway, I am sorry to see you are not feeling well and I hope you have picked up!! I was checking out your blog and saw the photos of the lovely Lillian she has got big. I think she has the daddy's eyes and your hair colouring and lips. I hope to hear from you soon. Holidays was nice and the weather since we returned is not so good. I will talk to you soon Pm later. Hope you are ok.
Hey!Sorry about your friend but, he has you on hand to help him and you will be a great Advocate for him.
