sweat test on Feb 16

I just have a little question, I called PHX Childrens hospital-and they said I would not have my sons sweat test results until two days later. Is that REALLY how long it takes to get these results back? I have read other posts that say you can get the results back within an hour. So what is up with that?

You might take that as a good sign that it came up negative. It does seem like they inform you right away if the result is positive.

I think it depends on the center. I had my son's sweat test done and they said I couldn't get the results for 1-2 days because we came late on the day of the test and the pediatrician was out of town the next day. I ended up calling another Dr. that was on call at our center and mentioned to him that I couldn't wait 2 complete days!! He was very understanding and ended up calling my pediatrician, who called us later that night to inform us of our son's diagnosis. If it's driving you nuts, do some calling. It couldn't hurt and might give you some peace of mind. Let us know what you find out & hang in there.

I disagree with it "being a good sign". It is not a sign one way or another. Like Carey said, it probably depends on the center. Yes, the test itself takes less than an hour, but they do not necessarily run the test as soon as they collect the sample. For example, when my son was tested, the sweat tests were sceduled to be run at 2:00 pm. Since his sample was collected on a Monday at 3:00, they did not run his test until the next day, Tuesday. They called me with the results on Tuesdays. The same thing happened with his confirmation test. They collected his sample after 2:00 on Thursday and ran it on Friday with the other samples at 2:00. We got the final results the same day they RAN the test (not the same day the sample was collected), about an hour and 1/2 later.

Ask the lab when the sample is scheduled to be RAN. Then you know when to start making phone calls (your doctor will have to get the results from the lab as the lab won't give you the results... only your doctor).

GOOD LUCK!!

If you look closely, the original post was dated the 15th & was asking about a test that was going to happen on the 16th. So, it's not a good or bad sign....it's just related to when they actually run the test on the sample. Like the post above me says.

Here's the most important question at this point. What were the results? Please keep us posted <img src="i/expressions/heart.gif" border="0">

I had my daughter tested at Children's Hospital in St. Louis on Feb 10 at noon and had the results by 4:30 that afternoon. I believe it just depends on the clinic and what time it was being done. Hope the results are good!!!
