Know your son is DF508 positive and that he tripped the newborn screen, I'd think that you could get insurance to cover the whole shebang. Our insurance covered the Ambry full mutations inquiry.

I'd hold off on your daughter. If your son has CF, then they will likely want to check your daughter for his two mutations. That is what they did with my boys. I know its overwhelming, but just take it one thing at a time.

First off... there is no such thing as "the more common genes" The Delta F508 is the only gene that is seen in any prevalence at all... there are 1561 genes identified...screenings are just that... a screening so be careful what you ask for -- you will want full genetic testing, not another screening.

I agree with Heather (again) it might be easier to wait and see what the results are for you son before asking for testing for you daughter. Assuming you are not seeing any symptoms from your daughter yet.

Yes, insurance usually pays for genetic testing, however they like to start off with screenings (testing for 97 genes or less) because it is cheaper (full testing is over $1500). Testing for anything less than all of them is completely pointless. Be sure to ask you doctor for full genetic testing.

Best wishes !!
