swine flu

That's encouraging!

What I heard that kind of made me nervous the other day was a spokesman for (or someone from) the CDC being interviewed on one of our local news radio stations.

She said the people who have died from it almost all died not from the swine flu itself but from a bacterial infection afterward. According to her, the swine flu can weaken your immune system to the point that a bacterial infection can really get you. Her warning was to just watch carefully what happens in the few days after it seems to be gone.

That just doesn't sound good for a CF patient!

I had something similar to swine flu. Like Fran said, they did NOT test me so I do not know for sure. But I started with a slight cough in the middle of the night on a wed-thurs...by Thurs night I had a slight fever (I only remember b/c I had to go to class coughing, but I didnt have a fever then, just when I got home). I thought it was normal CF cough stuff, so didnt think anything of it. Friday morning, my fever was slightly higher and I was achy. I got tamiflu that day and was on it for I think five days and was better...no fever, just coughing. So by then, my doctor thought maybe it was more lung infection, so I went on oral abx and was fine by the end of the two week course of them.

My advice would be try not to freak out. Wash your hands ALOT, as I am sure you already do. And if you get ANY sign of fever, infection, cough...call your doctor immediately! If you are more concerned, I am sure your CF clinic is getting many calls and I would hope they would be able to answer some of your questions as well.
