Swollen belly

Hello everyone!
When i go to my appointments my doctor always asks me, as one of the many routine questions, if i have a swollen belly or have had over the last months, my answer has always been no.
But for these last 2 weeks, aproximately, my belly has been very swollen! Especially after eating certain things. Well, i have been putting on weight and there's a chance that part of that weight goes to the belly (my mother and older sister have big bellies, although they're not fat at all). But my guess is.. cf, in my case.
So what can it be due to and what can i do to make it go away?
I've always been so proud of my toned belly <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0"> Help me..

I dont really know the causes of this, but I get it too! Especially after eating, like you said. I dont really pay attention to what causes it, but I had never had a problem with it before like a feww months ago. I told my doctor and all he did was like touch around the area....he didnt seem concerned. I def think it is CF related though....just not sure how!

I, for one, go thru cycles and just recently went thru a big belly stage. I also am proud of my flat belly & hubby likes it also. Sometimes CF can just be fluky. Other times it can be the slightest change in routine & diet that can influence things. For me it was a decrease in my water intake. Even tho it wasnt THAT much of difference in the overall sceme of things, it made a huge difference with my belly & bowel movements. IF you know you have certain foods that trigger it then try to stay away from them. I do believe genetics has a big influence on our body build, but with CF we are so often prone to the belly thing that I dont think you should base so much on your mom & older sis. Be sure to take any meds accordingly, drink plenty of water and if your bowel movements have changed (even slightly) you need to address it because that is probably the culprit.

Some times some of our medical issues are human being related. For instance, I can get a little backed up sometimes, but I find if I eat an apple, or a salad (something with fiber), the next day things are clearly out and my tummy is flat again.

However, if you are having sharp pains along with it, you could be experiencing a blockage.

I found that Colase (an oral OTC) works well for helping to get things moving again too.

Best Wishes.

I get the belly as well. However, I have noticed that it gets particularly swollen when I eat fast food. If you're a fast food eater, then maybe try and cut down, or get salads instead of burgers. Hope that helped, lol.

I have a condition called "slow stomach." It takes longer than usual for my stomach to move things through to the next phase of the digestion process. I used to get a big bloated (and uncomfortable!) belly even without being gassy.

Once I learned that I had slow stomach, there were steps I could take to avoid the bulge.

-Smaller, more frequent meals. (this is recommended for CFers anyway)

-take my enzymes about 10 minutes before meals with a glass of cranberry juice (this stimulates the gastric juices to get started)

-More protein, less fat in the diet

-Chew carefully and thoroughly so that food reaches my gut as broken down as possible

If I think of anything else useful, I'll be sure to include it. I hope you feel better. It's no fun being bloated for any reason. You didn't mention it, but you're not on prednisone, are you? That puts a big padding on the belly.

Good luck.
