Barrel chested look is usually from air trapping in the lungs. The sicker you are, the more air you have trapped, the more obvious the barrel chested.

This applies to lung damage also so even when you arent "sick", the air could be trapped throughout the lungs if they are damaged enough not to get all the air in/out properly.

IMHO after a certain point the look never goes away, but like so many other things with CF it varies.

IF you can afford it, or maybe as a birthday gift or something, book one session with a personal 'stylist' who measures your proportions and shows you what looks best on you, and throws out the things in your cupboard that doesn't work for you. This is REALLY an investment in good self esteem! And will save you lots of money in future that u would have spent on ill-fitting clothes. Healthy people also have problem areas and there are ways to dress around it, like the suggestions above.
