Symbicort

As I mentioned on here a couple weeks ago, my doctor had given me a sample of Advair. The sample only lasted 2 weeks, but I really felt like it helped. In fact I could tell a difference the first day. Well I had to go back to the doctor yesterday and I told her the advair really helped, so she was going to look for another sample before giving me a prescription for it. She couldn't find an advair sample, so she gave me Symbicort and wrote a prescription for it. I just started it yesterday, but I don't feel like it helped as much as advair did. Today I had to take an albuterol because I was feeling so short of breath. I normally take albuterol once in the AM and once in the PM. My question is for people that have taken them, which do you prefer?

Sara....I am a HUGE fan of Advair. I can not remember why; but, about a year ago I tried Symbicort and had about the same results you are describing. I am a fan of Advair and probably will never try Symbicort again. I am not sure why the difference was so drastic, method of deliver maybe. Anyway, that was my experience.

Hi Sara: I am also on Advaire and swear by it. There is such a huge difference in my spasms( brochial that is) that I would try anything different at this point. Thanks for sharing your experience with Simbicort.

There is one thing with Advaire and that it can cause upper respitory infections . So I pay close attention as to whether my infections are related to time out of the hospital , exacerbations or extra out of the ordinary infections. Like Im not supposed to but recently I think that the Advaire has been causing irritation to my airways. So I'm experimenting and have gone off the Advaire to see if I can do with out it. Some days I have to take it and it helps other days I don't take it , and Im fine for now. I know Im supposed to be consistant with it . But I'm trying to experiment a little. I will have to let my doctor know in clinic. I might even email her.

Best of Luck

my son started with Advair and immediately got thrush, we switched him to Symbicort and he hasn't had a problem since - he was only on the Advair for a day or two at most so it wasn't much of a difference to him to switch.

my daughter switched from Advair to Flovent because she didn't like the delivery of Advair something about it being the powder she didn't like.
