Hey Guys.. I have been having high blood pressure lately, my CF team just put me on a medication to bring it down but more troublesome is my rapid heart rate, At rest it is 130-150's and walking it went up to 172..I was really dizzy when that happen.

My blood work was okay, just a little low potassium.. I skipped my breathing treatments and had no caffiene and that still had not brought down my rate.. I don't have a fever and I am not hypoxic..

Anyone ever experience this before? I hate when I get really dizzy like that and I know I probably need to go get checked out... just looking to see if anyone has any insight

I had rapid heart rate for a couple of months at least a few times a day, sometimes for up to an hour. It began after I took Excedrin multiple times a day for a dental problem. Excedrin has A LOT of caffeine in it. Even after eliminating the caffeine, it took about a month for my heart to return to normal. I still get the rapid heart rate once in a great while if I take my Albuterol doses too close together, though. Hope everything turns out okay for you. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Hi! Tachycardia can be a symptom of Magnesium deficiency. It is my #1 symptom! You can become depleted of mg in just 3 days and sure enough if I stop taking it for a few days my tachycardia rears its ugly head. I've been seen by a cardiologist and who said everything was normal (though I never had an "episode" while wearing the monitor). If you aren't taking calcium, magnesium and potassium then if I were in your shoes I would start immediately. Unfortunately it took me several years to learn and figure this out. The meds we take for CF deplete our bodies of all these good minerals. Do some online research.

I take:
approx 500-800 mg of magnesium per day
approx 1000 mg of calcium per day (plus what I get in foods)
a multi vitamin w/ potassium.

good luck!

For the last 15 years I have been getting these bouts of tachycardia occasionally during the month or so when I'm having a flare up. It usually is the result of coughing particularly hard, when I'm sitting at a weird angle or starting to stand up or something. It's quite awful, my heartbeat skyrockets to +/- 200, I get serious chest pains, dizziness, etc. I lie down, drink some water, use my flutter, and really try to exhale out as much as possible. This lasts for 2-30 minutes, and then disappears instantly and my heartbeat returns to normal.

It feels very much like a heart attack, and it sucks. I've had multiple EKG's EEG's, worn a heart monitor etc, but there are no abnormal signs. My doctors are sort of dumbfounded by it and haven't done anything else.

Anyone else have something similar happen?
