Taken Levaquin

Hello.

So Levaquin is a completely new drug to me. They have never even suggested it and usually go right to IV abx, however today my doc said we could try this first to see if I get results.

Anyway, I know there is another thread about all the terrible things that people experienced on it so I'm hoping maybe on this thread people could share some positive experiences? Maybe whether it worked for you or not (minus all the doomsday stuff... I'm already nervous to start a brand new drug home all alone while DH is overseas.)

Thanks for any info. that won't keep me up all night worrying about it. LOL... As it sounds I'll be up all night anyway from the side effect.

Cheers,

I know how you feel about taking a new drug. I'm always nervous about taking something I haven't taken before and worrying about side effects.

I have been on Levaquin many times. I can't say that I recall ever having any side effects. It used to be an effective drug for me, but as of lately, I think my bugs are becoming resistant to it. The last couple cultures I had were resistant.

Just follow the directions (if I recall correctly it says to take with plenty of water). If you take it and think you might be having some side effects, call your dr. and see what he says. I hope it works for you!!

I've taken Levaquin quite a bit too over the years. It seems to take 2-3 days to 'kick in' whereas some of the other ABX seem to have a more immediate effect. I think that's related to how it does it's germ killing - some kill the germs directly (immediate effect) and some keep them from reproducing (longer term to feel the benefit) and rely on their life span and your immune system to actually kill the germs. I haven't had any side effects with it, other than needing to really bump up the probiotics to keep from getting a yeast infection. In my course of treatment I usually only get to Levaquin if other abx aren't working. Most of my experiences with it however is pre-CF dx. The oral abx my CF docs have prescribed the most for my bugs is Bactrim. ~Juliet

Levaquin is a great drug I will use it again....though I had side effects before. Please don't be scared to use it. My whole point in my post was to be aware of how ANY drug is affecting you. I was on Levaquin for too long and ignored side effects that I should have brought up to my doctor. "Too long" happened because I had to change the IV meds I was on at the time and went longer with them. It was very effective in helping me get back to baseline. I would just recommend drinking a lot of water, as you should with any antibiotics. I believe that class of drugs you should not be on for a very long time and take a break of 6 months between use....that is for resistance reasons. PM me if you have any questions. You should be fine and remember that side effects can be discussed with your doctor and they will go away when a drug is stopped
