I guess if it were us, I'd probably try to leave the button as long as it lasts, but if it gets pulled, I'd probably use that opportunity to let the stoma close up. Its so awesome that she is gaining so well on her own. We just gave up on weaning my daughter right now, she lost 4 pounds in the month that we were weaned. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0">
Anyway, as far as her playing with the tube. . . does it help to keep her in a onesie or one piece clothing so that she can't grab at it? There are also some companies that make belts to hold down the button. I'm not sure that it would be worth the expense at this point, since you are hoping to be tube free before summer.

Ok call me crazy but have you looked into porta cath? it serves many purposes such as blood draw and access to IV through, no more PICC every visit it can last quit a while and you can also do food supplementing through. I am sure it would not be great for round the clock feeding but for that what if scenario it would suffice, especially in a hospital stay situation. It is placed below the clavicle or arm?, just a thought you may want to research and talk to your clinic.

my daughter is in the 95th percentile and has been for a few months but our doc still has not mentioned taking out her g-tube. i would be afraid that as soon as it was removed something would happen and she would start losing weight and then need to have surgery to put it back in. (but, thats the way things happen in my life...lol) as far as her playing with it...i bought xlarge onsies until my daughter was about 20 months old and wore them on her. but she pretty much ignores her button...i also sent you a pm.
