I'm a CFer...and also a mom. I want to say that I agree...that if you can take little steps to prevent your child from becoming sick....by all means DO IT. Do whatever you can in that sense...but also would like to say...please dont keep your child from having a childhood. Good luck to all parents of CF children!

I agree with Dea, Tyler, and Carey. We do all we can as parents and let kids live their own lives as well. There is a happy medium indeed. You just can't ignore that there are dangers out there. Sounds like you're doing a good job.

Go for the water bottle!

Thanks to all for the good input. I spoke with my child's preschool teacher and I think we have things under control. She has been so good to work with and my son is so excited to finally go! Yeah, I have to agree with Tyler, Dea, and Julie too. If we can take just little steps to help our children stay healthy, WHY NOT??? You guys are great, thanks. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> Happy school year!

Just to clarify, I never said don't take small steps. Small steps are fine. I just would advise against going too far, because many parents do and then when the kids grow up, they're far more likely to turn around and start rebellious junk. A happy medium is fine, but don't expect to keep pseudmonas away. I know people don't like to hear this, but it is indeed everywhere and you will not be able to avoid it. I'm working on 21, and I've had MRSA and 3 or 4 different pseudomonases but I go on drugs to supress them every few months / a few times a year and it's worth it to me to have grown up as normal as possible given the CF. Just keep that in the back of your mind somewhere.
