Teach me...Please about "Great Strides"

Hi there, Let me 1st tell each of you thank you for all your advise you have given me in the last couple months. We are doing much better! We met with the doctors that perform PGD, and our future looks brighter. I just have to get my BMI way down...So, I have made up my mind that if my son has to fight every day to fight CF...I can fight to get my weight at healthy number....To give him brothers and sisters....Well, I need some tips or info on Great Strides? Did each of you do it the first year or wait? Do you only ask for support from family, friends, co-workers, or can you reach out to large companies? Thanks for anytips you might have.

My boys are older (16 and 12) and this will be our 17th GREAT STRIDES. Josh was diagnosed at 2 months which was in July, after Great Strides had past. I don't think I would have been able to handle it so soon after diagnosis, but the next May we were ready. I wasn't comfortable talking about Josh's CF (then) so I only asked family and friends. Our core group is still mostly those people although we are more upfront about asking now. Many people do a video slide show for fundraising donations via email. We found a letter writing campaign helped too.

GREAT STRIDES is a wonderful event for families. The kind of event depends on who runs it in your area. It is a good place to network with other parents of CFers in your town/area.

Where are you from, maybe there are others who could give you some site info. I'm sure you will get lots of advice.

I think it is a great way to let family and friends know about cf affects our families life. Also, a great way to raise money for the foundation of course. I also ask certain friends who I know have connections to businesses if they there company will make donations as well. I did send out our letter to corporations where we didn't have a connection and I did receive some generous donations from them. I know for example, Walmart, has a program at each store to give out $1,000 to a few foundations every few months, you just have to apply.
