I'm 20, I've had CF since I was 15 months old. The best my PFT's have ever been were about 70% when I was about 6. My pft's now are about 40-50% and have been that way for well over 5 years. The point is, statistics are statistics, it doesn't mean you will automatically fall into that pace

Hi everyone, my husband is 39 yo with CF, diagnosed at the early age of 6 months. His breathing tests still are in the 90's. He is doing very well. Keep smiling there is hope. He lives a fairly normal life for his age. Keep thinking long term. I have been with him for the past five years and not alot has changed. His is doing just as good if not better since I met him. Take care and God Bless!!

You are doing great! If you think about it, you have only lost about 8% after 17 years of dealing with this. SO think of it that way maybe. If you worry too much you will make yourself sicker.. As long as you keep a possitive attitude, get exercise, do your treatments and if you feel yourself not feeling well, you get something for it fast and don't wait you should be okay for a long time. It is not a guarantee that you will be fine if you do all that, but it will increase your chances GREATLY!

If you feel your chest feeling "funny" see your docs or talk to them right away. It is easier to treat the problem when it is small rather than wait until it is big and takes a lot longer to fix and might not be able to be fixed. I learned that the HARD HARD way!

I am 21 years old. I was diagnosed with CF at 8 months old. I also have CF related diabetes. My lung function is currently FEV1= 100% and FVC= 112% so I have normal lung function. I do my Vest everyday, which helps. I have always had good lung function but I also take good care of myself. Taking care of yourself is very important, because some may have good lung functoin at your age but didnt take care of themself and now have bad lung function at an older age, and some may have took good care of self at your age but still have bad lung function. It all depends on the person, I say stay active and do all your treatments as the doctors says and excercise, drink plenty of water and you will be fine. You can always gain lung function with excercise. I know a lady who is almost 50 that has CF and her lung function is in the 80's and she has always taken good care of herself <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
So dont worry, but take great care of yourself and do what the doctor say...and EXCERCISE!
