Teeth

Hey there, does anyone else have bad teeth? I swear I hold the world record for fillings. I do everything the dentist says but nothing helps, my teeth are just weak. They break and chip like no other. I'm seriously considering having them removed and getting implants. I was never a big milk drinker as a kid and I'm sure I didn't get enough calcium. Just wondering if anyone else has similar problems.

Actually it's funny I ave never had a filling. I eat so much candy and crap and I have never had problems with my teeth. They are however kind of yellow from all the meds I used to take all the time so I want to get them whitened but other than that mine are in pretty good shape. And I am a huge milk drinker so I am sure that helps! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">

I haven't had any teeth break, but I've got at least a dozen fillings, and no matter what I do, my teeth stay yellow (though I think that's from antibiotics as a kid). But yeah, my teeth are pretty gross. And not 5 minutes after I brush my teeth, my breath smells again because of all the crap living and growing on my tongue.

Mine are a bit discolored from all the tetracycline I took when I was young. I am unsure how much the enamel was effected by it though? Luckily I haven't had many cavity issues with my teeth but I would bet that all the meds cause your problems too.

My teeth were so bad, I would just try not to smile, but I am a big fan of laughing so that didn't work. I had porcelain veneers done and now I love it. BIG self esteem booster. I was actually able to write some of on insurance since it was caused by a medical issue. Would be the same for you all too.

My teeth are always getting cavities and were very discoloured. I used the Crest White Stripes and what a difference...they really work. I used it once for two weeks and wasn't happy I wrote the company and they gave me a cheque for another box. After two boxes my teeth are white!! I keep a box handy and use a couple here and there. I would LOVE veneers but it's just not in my budget.

Ditto. My teeth are yellow if I look at food. Then my tongue in the morning... It's disgusting. I feel your pain, Emily!

This thread made me laugh because just this morning I was thinking of starting a thread to see if any one else hade good teeth like me. I have never had any cavities, fillings, braces, teeth pulled, or anything! I guess that is not the case with others. I can handle many kinds of shots, but the thought of a shot in my gums makes me cringe! I am however in the process of whitening my yellow teeth, but I thought it was because I drink so much coffee.

I can completely relate to Jenna and the frogprincess! My teeth look good in the front, but once you go deeper, they're a mess! I brush and floss all the time, but I still get cavity after cavity and my teeth do chip easily. I've been told that all of the anesthesia I've had is a big factor combined with constant antibiotcs and brathing through my mouth due to sinus polyps. I've gone under general anesthesia at least 18 times...a lot of which was when I was younger and my "grown up" teeth were devloping. Does anyone know if they make implants for individual teeth? Or do you have to get the whole set?

Hey Melanie,
I've been doing research on implants. Go to the ADA's web site, tons of good info. You can just get individual implants, which is what I'm considering for the teeth that show when I smile and maybe getting the rest done in a few years. You still have to brush of course and they can get stained but they don't decay!!! There is also no maintance such as fittings and rebuilds like with traditional dentures.

Hey TheFrogPincess, DONT do anything until u seek several different opinions from dental surgen. Be sneeky! Go there for a "check-up". Say your a possible patient. Dont say anything about what ure thinking of. After the check-up, make anthnor app to discuss his findings. From now on, bring the same freind to all the apps. If u dont like that idea, carry a handheld, personal recorder. READ EVERYTHING B4 U SIGN IT ! ! ! Does the Dr. listen b4 suggesting? See if he/she tries to sell/push anything? Are they trying to cosmetically helping u or their checkbook? Are they in the local Dental Association? Are they in the Better Business Breanu? When they put you out, is the nurse with u in the room the whole time. Does the Dr. make u feel "creepy"? Can you bring a friend to the app? Do u tallk about risks and side effects of the surgery and the anthestheia or pain meds he gives u? Will anything react w/ u're meds? Is the Dr. able to handle any problems that mite arize on site, b/c of u're health? Does he have a speciliation in anything? Do they listen to u breathing/lungs? B4 surgery, does he talk to u're primary care doc? B4 surgery did they give u a number u can call the dr at if u have problems after surgery? I would find out this part last-to much leg work--Do they have any strikes filed or suits pending/striked guilty. Did they pay off the patient? I have been told this is considered as to dramatic? Maybe so, but this type of reconstruction IS SURGERY. I am sorry If I seem "bossy", but I am new to all the medical jargeon. I have been married for almost 3 years and I still am ?ing alot of things. Btw-I ask my Doc's this much. HaHA
From the front, my teeth are alraight. In the front, I have filliings. Inside, I have a quarry. I have stains from having braces and not brushing correctly. I don't know how to say it-maybe I am a bad brusher. Allright, I am. I know I don't floss as much as I should. I guess or maybe not a floriade rince would help. I don't know if there is such a thing as soft teeth. There is one thing that I would do if I were u. Buy a toothbrush. And not the $2.79 one at Meijers. I'm talking about one from u're dentist. U could probably buy one at Meijers or such but mine at the denitst was alot cheaper. They sold it at dealer price and didnt make any money b/c they wanted us to use them. WHAT A DIFFERANCE! My dentist was flabbergasted! I have the Sonicare Elite, I think. Go to Sonicare. com GOOD LUCK

I have a sonicare and I also have a good surgeon, the same one who took out my wisdom teeth. All the things you said to ask are good questions but I think maybe a little parinoid. All you have to do (at least in the US) is make sure the surgeon is endorsed and certified by the ADA and 1-800-DENTIST. They check into all those things for you. And I have more than enough experience with the medical comunity to know that if someone gives me the creeps they won't be touching me.

Hi guys,
I just went to the dentist today. The 1st time in 7 years, ugh. I only had 1 small cavity, which is surprising. I asked about whitening, and they quoted around $200. And that is w/out dental insurance. Good luck. And if you do get porceline venears (spelling?) I hope you never stop smiling....because they are SO BEAUTIFUL!

They don't work on white fillings (the ones they use on front teeth) though! So if you have front teeth fillings try to avoid dark drinks like coffee and pop or if you do drink them use a straw so your front teeth aren't bathed in it.

my teeth are nasty too. Always have been. Since I was a kid i have cavities like crazy. one dentist even got sick of me and suggested i go to another dentsist because she was getting frustrated with me!! Even now my teeth are terrible. They chip and and crumble when the dentist starts drilling. I was told it was due to the meds, and bacteria i cough up daily. I have what they call porous teeth which means they are like sponges and just soak up everything so they basically rot. I ve had to start getting teeth pulled now(back ones) and I was told I would probably need dentures soon(im 23). Not looking foreward to it because they arent covered by my health care. My sister has the same problem and she has CF as well.

Funny enough my folks were told because of the high dose antibiotics I would have my teeth rot out of my head.
from day one from my first took mum was vigilent on brushing and oral hygiene, and I have no idea if it was pot luck or because of this vigilence which I followed through all my life. My teeth have always been a priority to me, and Im pretty proud to boast I have never had one filling!!
The only dental I have had done was my wisdom teeth pulled out one at a time in the chair, no aneasthetic because I was pre transplant..
So 31 years later I have lost a lot of things including a major organ, but my teeth are perfect!! LOL
