Terminating pregnancy?

I'm so glad that you are still with us. I have been thinking about you an awful lot these past few days. I'm glad that you are getting the answers you need.

Good luck with your continued research. The stress of knowing of a CF diagnosis prenatally (we found out through amnio at 22 weeks that our youngest daughter would have CF) is tremendous. I was already emotional because I was pregnant, but I just stressed out about everything including the diagnosis.

The support in this forum is amazing. These people will help you wrap your head around everything that is going on, I promise.

If you need anything or have questions about coping during pregnancy, feel free to PM me anytime. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

My daughter is 3 months old. Her only symptom so far has been issues with her stools. Frequent, smelly, with a little bit of mucus in them. But that is all under control by taking enzymes. Emma is my first child, so honestly I would never have suspected anything was abnormal with her stools. Thank goodness that my state has Newborn screening or I would never have known about the CF.

We went to the CF clinic a couple of weeks ago. All of the people on our CF Team are very happy with Emma's health. She is gaining weight really well.

I will tell you what we do for her related to CF:
We give her two enzymes in applesauce before every bottle. She LOVES the taste of applesauce!
We do a nebulizer and patting (on her chest and back) 2 times a day.
We give her a liquid vitamin and half a prevacid every day.
We put salt in 2 of her bottles each day.

Other than that she is a normal, happy, beautiful baby girl.

I can tell you that 2 - 2 1/2 months ago I was scared and depressed about my baby's future. I cried all the time. Now we have fallen into a routine. I cry occassionally, but I don't cry every day.

My little girl is cooing, smiling, and grabbing things with her hands. Every day brings a new and wonderful experience with her. I don't think twice about having her in my life. She is a gift.

Message me anytime if you have questions or just want to chat.

Wow! What an array of viewpoints in this thread! It's wonderful to have a such a collection of viewpoints and support. I do have to say that I am against abortion and felt that those who are also against abortion and giving this child a chance presented their points quite well. Life isn't perfect, we all suffer - whether it's from CF or something else. If I knew my daughter was going to die in a car accident at 7 would I have considered an abortion? If I have no idea how her disease will progress, how is it my right to abort her based upon a concern or feeling of what might be? At 18 weeks, that baby is simply a smaller form of a full term infant. There is nothing left to develop other than in size. As bold as this is, would the pain of CF amount to more than what that child would have felt during the abortion itself? I can't say I'm sorry if I've offended anybody with that statement because the argument of when it's still a choice to abort at such a late stage falls apart by the fact that the child CAN feel pain at that stage of development.

We are a group of passionate people, each entitled to their own opinion...nobody has to agree with me...it's just nice to know that we can try to help each other through what each of us has gone through or believes. It would be a pointless forum if we didn't speak our minds in attempt to help others. Thanks everyone for your honesty....
