Our son had the nissen procedure when he was 8 months old. He also had a g-tube placed and a hernia repaired at the same time. He had also been on oral medication for his reflux since shortly after he was born, without any real change. We do not regret the decision to have the surgery because our son's reflux also seemed to be contributing to his lung congestion which was quite significant at the time. He has also really made progress with his weight since he had the g-tube. We were glad that he only had to go into surgery one time and his recovery was pretty quick even with multiple procedures. I am not sure that you need to know for sure about the CF diagnosis to proceed because as others have said, those procedures are done for any number of reasons. I think I would just want to know the total "plan", though and what the pros and cons are for each procedure--that is how my husband and I came to our decision. We did not want any unneeded procedure done, but we also did not want him to have to go in for multiple surgeries.
