Tharapy distractions!

I used to be pretty bad about remembering my treatments, too. There was always something else I either would rather be, or should be, doing. But when I started to get more frequent infections, I buckled down. Plus I had my mom, sister, father, and boyfriend all nagging me. I'm glad they do, though ^_^ Now that I'm living on my own, Rick (bf) does my CPT before he leaves for work, so if I don't remember, he does! As far as using a device for therapy, I use the acapella after my nebs in the evening. I don't have much of a problem concentrating on it. Usually I pull up an article or something on the internet and do it while I'm reading.

Wow! I'm pretty shocked, am I reading right that most of you only use an airway clearance device once a day? I don't in any way FORGET to do tharapy (I dread it, there's no way I could forget) it's just when I do it, actually DOING it straight through without stopping.

Jane that's really great that you have a PT lady, I remember last time I was in the hospital they sent a nurse it so 'oversee' me doing tharapy, it was required each time I did tharapy, I LOVED it because I could watch TV while I was doing flutter, but knowing there was a nurse waiting on me I never got distracted, no one had ever done that for me before.

I cant say I get distracted. I couldnt "just forget". I will say that I have conciously chosen not to do it if I was in the middle of something. I will also say that this is very very rare. If I chose not to do it, its more likely because I am exhausted & I thought getting sleep was more important at that moment then doing my vest. I always do my nebs tho. I cant breath without them. I just dont see how you can get distracted and thats its.

This probably will be much much easier for you when you get a new vest. I almost always do my vest and nebs twice a day. I know the vest doesn't work well for some people, but it seems to do well for me, so I'm sticking with it. I have my vest next to my computer, so I have something to do during that time.

The key for me is getting in a routine. I get up a half-hour earlier than I would otherwise to make sure I have time to do my vest and inhalers/nebs (collectively referred to as my breathing treatment). In the morning I have a list of websites I visit (various comics, CNN, weather, sports) that takes just about the right amount of time.

I'm not the best about doing my vest at a specific time at night because my evening schedule changes during the week, but usually I do my breathing treatment about 9pm while I chat on this site or play poker. Either way that usually gives me plenty of time to do my treatment and clean my nebs after and still get to bed at a reasonable hour.

If I miss a treatment it is usually because I am really busy or just plain exhausted. I'll usually chose the extra half-hour of sleep over the treatment if I'm run down.

Hey Blake - How's it going? Did you leave tennessee yet?

In the morning, I unload the dishwasher. At night, I watch TV with the sound muted so that I can read the captions. I only do inhaled nebs, though.

I turn the tv. up loud enough for me to at least hear most of what is going on. I also get on the computer sometimes or read a book, I admit it is hard trying to read while on the vest but Im not complaining. Sometimes I do dishes or just sit there and think or listen to my mp3 player or close my eyes and dose while doing them, of course I dont completely dose off but I do rest my eyes.
