The 4 Day Work Week

We are discussing moving some of our manufacturing lines to 4 days x 10 hours, but not sure if/when we will. There are some definate benefits for the company, and many employees like it.

But looking at my son's treatments, I think it would be a nightmare to manage; especially during a tobi month.

However, I have worked 10-12hrs/day for the nearly 10 years so I would love to only work 4 days instead of 5 (especially since I only get paid for 40hrs).

One thing to consider though is this: if you are off every Friday, you can intentionally schedule dr's, tests, runs to the pharmacy, ect on Friday's and don't have to miss work. Plus, since most people are working, it is sometimes easier to get into places if you can take an appt at an odd time, like 10:30AM or 2:30PM which would not work well for someone that has to leave work.

That is happening in our area too. I'm sure that I could handle it now but most places that I have worked have to be open all the time so it wouldn't matter. My husband works for a natural gas station (Dominion) and they would not be able to do the 4 day work weeks either. Someone needs to be at the station 24/7 during the winter to make sure that there is enough gas flow to heat the homes!!

I've been telecommuting on Fridays for about 13 years now. Usually I get my 40 hours in on Mon-Thurs and Fridays are OT or just more work. (My work is pretty much a black hole in terms of hours.) I'd love to have fridays guilt free no work! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> ~Juliet

This is such a perfect topic for where I am at... Typically nurses work 3 (12) hour shifts a week and they also get paid full time salary with full benefits, Actually I had a really sweet deal when I first moved to SC I worked 2 (12) hour shifts two days a week ( on the weekend) and got paid full time with benefits...

I personally could not do 12 hour shifts...not even twice a week, granted I was sick at the time but.. I am not anywhere as near as good of a nurse on my 12th hour as I am on my first 8.. and I would imagine whatever job you were in, you would be less productive...also when you work 12 hour shifts back to back.. IF you are lucky enough to get out on time, which I wasn't usually.. I would have exacatly 12 hours before I had to be back at work.. That left me an hour to drive home, and hour to do treatments, before bed, and then I needed two hours in the morning to get ready and do treatments and then another hour to drive which left me a total of six hours to sleep.. NO where near enough sleep for me

I love the concept of the 12 hour shift.. just can't do it for me....

I just took a job working 4 8.5 hour shifts and I am hoping I can do that....
