The Future

I'm 44. I was diagnosed last year. The symptoms are mild but I was recently diagnosed with osteoporosis. I've had some respitory reactions to what I used to consider mild issues like reaction to chemicals and pets. The doctor even found that my testosterone levels are so abnormally low, they're putting me on something called Testim. My CF doctor said that low T-levels are a result of CF. Is that true? Anyway, Testim along with 50,000 mg of Vitamin D and Fosamax, maybe I won't break a hip or vertibrea in the future. And I really really hate those Fosamax commercials. That music makes me garbage can-throwing crazy!

Good Lord all of this is nutts.

For for all of you "older" folks...no offense of course. What else should I prepare for?

I'm young and no help to you... but I just wanted to say this the moment I saw the name of the thread:
You can't expect anything with CF ever, except it to get worse in general. But you never know if your digestion with go to hell, or your lungs, or your bones, or your liver, etc.

I imagine someone will be of some assistance... just don't mark what they say on the calendar, waiting for it to come. Because it may not. That's all.

Well i certainly cant predict what to expect in your future with cf, but i CAN however offer some tips on how to try your best to avoid some unpleasant things.
~If you are ever hospitalized PLEASE ask the nurse for a box of alcohol swabs and wipe off everything and anything you may touch or even think of touching. ( door handles, bedrails, tv remote, telephone, iv poles, table, chair handles, anything in the bathroom)
~ Always use handsanitizer any chance you get, but especially after shaking someones hand, or coming out of a building, or especially when you go into and exit your cf clinic.
~Dont share anyone elses drinks
~ avoid anyone with a cold like they have the plague
~If you think you are getting sick ,stay on top of it, and dont wait to call the Dr.( i need to work on this one myself)
~exercise is the best way to help keep what lung function we have, and possibly improve on it also.
~eat even if you arent hungry, our bodies need fuel to help fight the battle that is going on within( even when you feel well)
~Do some form of mucus clearance, whether it be the vest, manual percussion, flutter, vigorous exercise etc.
~get enough rest

Theres probably so much more, but these are the basics....
