the higher the strength in enzyme-the more damage you have?

yes- docs do all the stool stuff, but it comes down to trial and error. Different brands have different concentrations of the enzymes your body digests with- and different ppl may need more or less of a certain enzyme. Being 16 and lets just say 115 pounds (when pred is not in the pic) I take 7-9 creon 20s for meals. Mom (a nurse) says its "splitting hairs" to try and determine who is "more" pancreatic insufficent. It just depends.

You seem to use a different system to figure out your dose in the US. Here I take one creon 10000 for every 6g of fat I eat, so it's different depending on what you eat, just like insulin. It's better in that the amount of enzymes is correct for the amount of food.

If you are getting bloating without greasy stools then you are probably overdosing.

Hey everyone,

I don't take any enzymes but i've always heard that you should take them according to the results you see. No test or exam will be able to tell exactly how many and how strong they should be & you kind of have to be your own doctor here.
The bloated belly is probably caused by the fact that you need to go to the bathroom more often, but that happens with LOTS of people who don't have CF too. Right? <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

I don't think that is always the case to compare the amount of enzymes you take to the "damage" or in a better word, "lack of enzyme secretions your pancrease puts out".

While in the States I had taken 15 Cotazym-S capsules and still had issues. Since I've been in Japan, I do get issues on occasion but in general have been able to gain or maintain weight without enzymes. At the most I take "supplements".

I would think diet and enzyme intake is related. I also would adjust my amount of enzymes I would take, but heard that others would take a certain amount at the beginning of their meal and if the food was hard to digest, they would take more during their meal, since they figure the first dose was used up. I'd say to experiement with how you do, since your doc can only go by data and description, he/she can't determine on a day-to-day basis.
