The Vest and toddlers

Our doctor is a proponent of "the vest", so it's the Hill Rom. Full style vest. 3 different frequency settings per treatment.

Aidan has been using the Respirtech since 18 months for an hour a day. He sits on my or my husband's lap and watched The Wiggles or we read books or color. He does Xopenex and Pulmozyne at the same time which can be a little tricky but he is usually okay.

Now that I am pregnant, I get a little nervous with him sitting against my belly as he does a high pressure. I guess I think it could cause a miscarriage or something? Do pregnant CFers use the VEST?

My house is also getting quite filled up with all his equipment. I usually just keep it out unless we have company.

Ben started at 2 (about 6 months ago). We had been doing nebs so we tried to add it at the same time so we'd be done all at once. This didn't work because I think it bugged him that the neb mask vibrated and tickled his face. We did it separtely nebs first then vest. We also found that he complained about it rubbing his face...it rides up. So I cut a baby blanket in a U shape and place it on top around the neck area so it doesn't rub.

Finally he will let us do nebs and vest at the same time so it works great. We do 15 minutes 2x daily. He still tries to get out of it some days but we do a count down at the end so he know he isn't done until then. We do ours in the family room where we can store it away when not in use. I just have to keep all that stuff out of site for the same reasons you mentioned. Maybe you can even find a cool trunk or something to stick it in after using it (ours unplugs on the side so I can just wrap all the wires and tuck them behind.

I felt the same way when we got the vest...another reminder, very real. I cried the whole first time. Then I stopped and tried to think of how much easier it is than hand CPT.

Good luck with the toddler tricks...I know what you are struggling with!!
