The Vest on a Plane

I've taken mine on an airplane a few of times, and one time they switched our original plane to a smaller one (after I had called and verified everything ahead of time!) and then they tried to tell me it wouldn't fit in the overheads and they wanted to put it in the cargo hold. Ummm...not a snowball's chance! They ended up putting it up with the stewards.

I haven't had any issues with the other carriers I've flown, they just "bomb sniff" it and open it at security. My bag doesn't have wheels, so I bought a small set of $15 luggage wheels for mine. I can put my suitcase on top of it, and a carseat (turned upsidedown). That made 3 people (2 adults, one toddler) going through the airport with 2 carryons, the vest, a carseat and a stroller much easier!

I have had to tell a securtiy person that that bag she was so roughly handling was a $16,000 piece of medical equipment too!

Just bumping this -- I believe we're taking the same airline as Froggymama, so I'm a little nervous about flying with the vest.

We've got the hill-rom 104 with the rolling back which we will take as a carry-on, along with the pari proneb ultra II compressor, neb cups, meds and a cooler with pulmozyme & actigall.

I have traveled alone now several times with two toddlers, ages 2 and 4 the 2 year old has CF. We always carry our vest on, we have had no issues and have flown on 4 different airlines. My 2 year old is also on oxygen so we have the oxygen tank and extra batteries and all the tubing and stuff that goes with it. We also have our Pari Nebulizer, cups and all the meds in a cooler as well as enzymes, actigal, and 6 other meds. We usually have our pulmonologist write a letter for the airline, but have never had to use it. We flew to Orlando in October and I had both kids and 7 carry ons with all our medical stuff in it. Though no one offered to help, we had no issues either on the plane or in security, with the number of things or the type of things.

i know i already replied earlier on this thread but since i've been traveling quite a bit lately by airplane i just thought i would add that at the majority of airports now they are requiring you take "breathing machines" out of their bags and run them through by themselves like you would a computer. other than that new added security measure i'm still having no problems flying with the vest...other than the fact that it weighs a ton.
