I can not use the recommended setting for the vest. I actually sat with one of the PT at my clinic & experimented to get the most from my vest. My airways go into spasm. I think this would apply to others also as well as pain etc. I dont see why you cant experiment to what is comfortable yet more productive for you!

I do like the vest, because I think it does help with getting sputum up, although it seems to come up a little while after the treatment, not during the treatment. I don't actually know what the recommended settings are...my guess would be that mine are probably too low but I think they still do some good. But yes, the vest is painful at times. For some reason I find that wearing a jacket is kind of comforting and makes it hurt a little less, although could be just me. I hope you find something that is comfortable!

Do you use Hypertonic Saline? My vest helps me cough up stuff, but paired with the saline it cleans me out good =) The combination of the two together (especially in the morning) helps me to cough up all sorts of stuff.

I would suggest using the lower settings for your vest to make it a little easier on your body... i dont think you should be feeling sore after you use it.

Good luck =)

Hey there. What pressure setting do you have your vest on? If my pressure setting is too high, it beats the crap out of my body and makes me hurt too. Also, what kind of vest do you have? Full vest or chest vest? (I am assuming you're using "The Vest" machine) If I use the full vest, it hurts my back even on a low pressure/frequency. I stick to the same frequency, 15hz with the chest vest (doesn't inflate in the back) and I have a pressure setting of 1.

If you can, talk to an RT at your center. They're really good about finding the right settings.

Good luck.
